The 2013 edition of the event was bigger and better than ever before. This time the participation was not limited to the students of b-schools but was open to public in general. With support from AIADA, the prize money was also increased this year.
All these resulted tremendous increase in the number of submissions as well as the quality of b-plan. The completion was further enriched by the inclusion of sustainability B-plan round specific to XLRI.
Moreover many of the B-plans had social theme which was very encouraging to see.

The environmental sustainability consultant working in XLRI presented the problems that XLRI is trying solve, to the finalists and asked them to build a small b-plan around one of the problems. The finalist then presented their sustainability b-plan to the judges. This was not an elimination round and had 20% weightage in final evaluation.

THE WINNERS
Winner : Team Hashtag
Team Hashtag which has developed and implemented an IT based car parking mobile application was declared as the winner. Though they have currently implemented the system in Delhi, with the penetration of smartphones with 3G connection growing very fast, they have plans to implement the system in all major cities in India including major cities of Jharkhand like Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad.
1st Runner up : Team Farmer’ Friend
Team Farmer’ Friend which had developed a unique solar crop harvester and has implemented it in Jharkhand was chosen for the seed money award of Rs40, 000. They have developed a product which solves one of the major problems farmers in Jharkhand in currently facing. Farmers in Jharkhand are the victims of harvesting failures and losses due to unavailability and ill-affordability of on-demand harvesting. The solar crop harvester that they have developed is 15 times cheaper, 10 times more energy efficient than any crop harvester available in the market and at the same time helps retrieve both food and fodder. They have already started selling the products to farmers West and East Singhbum and Saraikela districts of Jharkhand. The product had been developed keeping in mind the unique conditions of Jharkhand and we believe it will go a long way in helping the poor farmers of the district. We would recommend Jharkhand Government to invest in this project and make this product more affordable to the farmers of Jharkhand.
2nd Runner Up : Team Mrittika
While Team Mrittika’s idea to use traditional arts to deliver contemporary wearable products propelled them to the second position in the competition. Their purpose is to revive and promote the dying traditional weaves from the hinterlands of the country by training artisans and providing them the basic necessities to hone their skills. For this they plan to set up sourcing and training centers for artisans in various districts of Jharkhand and source their products from them. They plan to leverage online media and exhibitions to sell the products sourced from various artisans across Jharkhand.
